A really shallow depth of field is great, but it can go too far. I have some shots at f1.8 that the DoF is so shallow that not even I can figure what they are!
This was at f2.8 on my little Canon Ixus. You can see that the DoF is so shallow that only about half a centimetre of the table cloth is in sharp focus…

Blimey! I know it can be exaggerated by bringing the angle of the shot lower (in that photo, for example) but it looks that at f2.8, it doesn’t even need it anyway! Impressive, especially from the Ixus.

I can imagine it would! That shot above is only at f4, at f1.8, or less, it must be just stupid!
