What a mass-bunch of updates! Here’s another…
Since I’ve spent most of my money on that nice new lens of mine, from now on I’m hoping not to spend too much more on my camera for a while. My Mini’s Tax and MOT is due early January and I am planning on taking it off the road for an engine upgrade and a few other bits. Let me just run down now what the plans are for next year with the Mini …
- A 2nd hand 1275cc MG Metro block, head and gearbox
- (Already bought) Weber 45 DCOE carburettor
- A short Weber 45 manifold (not sure where form as yet)
- 3-piece pre-engaged Verto clutch kit
- Lightened and balanced flywheel and backplate
- Straight cut drop gears for 1275 A+ engines
That little lot should get me started. I’m hoping it won’t cost too much money, and therefore won’t take me much time to get my current engine out, and all this lot back in. Next on my shopping list then, is all of that from one of the many Mini specialist suppliers (not sure which one to use as yet!)
I’m hoping to take photos of the work that I do with my Mini and keep this place up-to-date, with guides and tips on how to do certain things. First job, of course, is to remove my current engine. I’ll be borrowing an engine hoist from a mate shortly to help with this next year.

[...] In the coming few months of this Winter I am planning on buying an MG Metro 1275cc engine and replacing it with my current engine in my Mini – my 998cc. As I said a while ago, I’ll be doing a few bits and bobs on the engine before fitting it, such as buying and fitting straight cut drop gears (again), a lightened flywheel, new clutch, etc. One thing that I am planning on doing is fitting my Weber carburettor I bought from eBay a while ago which is a Weber 45 DCOE (very nice indeed!…) [...]
