Jarhead war film – incredible

The other night I watched the film Jarhead on Channel 4. Seriously, wow, what a film.

Its a war film based around a group of Marines in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War. Besides the usual hardcore American Marines scenes, it also includes a really good, deep love story between the main character Anthony Swofford (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) and his girlfriend.

Jarhead

I’ve seen plenty of war films, and I usually always enjoy them, but this one really hit me. Not only did Anthony have to endure the immense torture from the heat of the desert, the attitude from his superiors, and the war in general, but also having to deal with his girlfriend going off on one with another bloke "back-home".

An incredible film, and a story that really shows how tough life can be.

  1. Great Movie! I saw it in the theater and I might be a little sick, but it made my miss the military. Anyway, one of my favorite war movies.

That doesn’t make you sick mate. To be honest, if I were ever in the MOD then watched that back at home, I think I’d miss it too. Although life must be so tough, it looks like a really fantastic experience.

I think I’m just thick but I didn’t get it when I saw it at VUE, I mean, they never fire the gun properly at all. And note to self: Don’t stand up on a firing range/assault course.

Hi Names, haven’t heard from you in a long time.

I think that’s the point of the film – they never got to fire a single shot. Shows how pointless parts of the Gulf War were, and how irritated the soldiers must have got. The film shows this well, I thought.
