Since owning my Canon 17-40mm L lens, I’ve now disowned my Canon 75-300mm lens simply because it lacks the L-glass quality. It sounds arrogant, I know. People warned me about becoming an Laholic, and they were right!
For my upgrade to my Canon 75-300 I’ll be buying the Canon 70-200mm f4 L. Its 100mm shorter than my current telephoto, which I might miss in some places, but it makes up for it in other areas, such as its tack-sharp image quality, build quality and lightning fast focusing.
When buying a Canon 70-200mm L lens, you’ll find you’ll have four different options; four different lenses to choose from. They are…
- Canon 70-200mm f4 L – The one I’m going for, the cheapest. Light, small, f4-all-the-way
- Canon 70-200mm f4 IS L – Same as above, but with Image Stabilizing. A bit heavier and larger.
- Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L - Much larger and heavy. f2.8 aperture is very fast.
- Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L – Same as above, but with Image Stabilizing. The ultimate, but VERY heavy!
I’d love to get a f2.8 version, simply because of the increased speed throughout the zoom-range, but its just too big, heavy and too expensive!
Anyway, keep an eye out here in the new year and I’ll hopefully have bought myself one!

[...] Following on from my post about getting a new lens for myself, and then again about the Jessops price matching scheme, I can confirm that their price matching scheme has ended. Completely. Well, almost… [...]
