Haven’t updated this in a while, and so much has happened, where to begin?
Well, on the 16th September last Saturday was the Ringwood carnival which I went to. It was excellent! There were loads of floats and many other things to do, and it honestly doesn’t even compare to Hayling’s carnival, it must be said! As well as just the carnival and floats going along the road, there was also a fair, stools, etc.
I shot this photo while watching some bagpipe players who were great.
After that we headed back to the main road and waited for the floats to come down. The night was quickly drawing in, but even so I was confident to not use my flash on my camera at all. I wanted to practice "long-ish" time exposure and panning without a tripod.
It worked quite well I thought, although it looks like the steam engine is moving pretty fast, where in fact it was probably less than walking speed! Along with that, I took a similar photo of some Star Trek dancers, who were fantastic.
After the carnival passed, we headed on down to the funfair which was teaming with kids. I didn’t fancy a ride on anything that night, so I instead quickly shot this photo. Its something I’ve always wanted to photograph, and again, this was without tripod.
Not bad I don’t think. I don’t know if its camera technology, me getting better, or being able to hold the camera more steady (because of its size and/or weight), but it seems that longer-than-normal exposures are a massive amount easier than on my previous cameras. Although not perfect, it does the trick and in my eyes, certainly looks better than flash (or at least, using the built-in flash).

That last one was hand-held? Wow!
Like the piper too. Not sure about the “Star Trek” dancers shot, it just seems a little lacking and “snapshotty”. Sorry!
