Common Rally Car Equipment List

This is an equipment list that I have come to generate over the period of time while looking at rally cars, in particular the 1960′s Mini’s. Theres probably loads im missing, but this is only from visual observations for my knowledge. Generally speaking, the car should be stripped down with no carpet, sound proofing or any other materials that could cause fires. Main items The below items are essential, large and should be "build in" to the car, if you know what I mean.

Exterior

  • Rear mount spot light (for reversing light)
  • (Optional) front spot lights
  • Bonnet straps / pins / additional fixings
  • (Optional) boot straps / pins / additional fixings
  • Door numbers
  • Sump guard
  • Stick-on bonnet numberplate
  • CB (or something) radio ariel

  • Radio intercom or CB radio (or something)

  • Co-driver map reading light (flexible)
  • Fire extinguisher (fixed somewhere in cabin) x2

Hey Fella, Nice blog. Just a quickie to say that some of the rally equipment (specifically Mini Cooper related) is available at http://www.ocoop.com You;ll see they have the door circles and numbers, bonnet pins etc. Good prices, worth a look. Daz

What a superb looking mini. Well done. I hope to get my 69 Cooper looking something like yours but in Almond Green. Currently rebuilding the shell with full Safety Devices cage. Have hot 1340 engine with straight cut box and LSD to go in – should go well if I get the time to finish it!

Thanks Mick. Your Mini sounds just superb. I just wish mine was a little earlier so that I could properly compete in classic car rallies.

I’m hoping to install a 1275 Mg Metro with a 45 Weber and lightened flywheel in 2007. Stay tuned to this site for details of the change! :)
