I was lucky enough to go to the Autosport International Motorshow this weekend with some friends, as I did last year. Its held at the N.E.C in Birmingham, and I think it could well be the best motorsport show of the year – at least out of the ones I’ve been to.
I took loads of photos, which you can see from my Flickr account here, but I’ll also just run through a few of my favourites.
The wonderful Subaru Impreza 2006 World Rally Car above. As I’ve said on the comments on Flickr, I never used to rate the Impreza, and especially when they released their 2001 "second generation" facelift model. Since that, however, they did another facelift to this shape which is just awesome in about 2005. The rally version above of course, looking as aggressive as ever.
As well as the modern WRC stuff, they had a few golden oldies too like this spotless Mk2 Ford Escort rally. This one is sponsored by Minilite, the alloy wheel manufacture who’s very popular by classic car enthusiasts throughout England, especially in Mini’s of course.
Another Mk2 Escort here; This one is a race Escort of some sort, but not sure what type of racing it competes in. The engine was something special too, with Cosworth stamped on the top along with a 16v badge, you know its going to be quick. I forgot to look at the engine specs on this one, but I’m pretty sure it’ll be as fast as you’d expect it to be, especially with those beautiful fat wheels!
Zcars were there too, and included on their stand was this mighty 450bhp Supercharged Vtec engine on a bespoke Mini frame. Yes, 450bhp in something the size of a Mini. Just imagine driving that thing, all under the body of a standard Mini too! The specs were unbelievable, and the video just breathtaking
I’ll end this post with a photo of these two models. You may think nice at first, but just look at what their wearing. As someone said on the comments on Flickr, the outfit is just plain weird. None of the blokes taking photos were complaining though, including me, although I did see a number of girlfriends and wives who weren’t as pleased!
