I wasn’t going to post these two photos I took at the Flickr meeting the other day, since I thought they both were not worthy of it, but I have anyway.
It was pretty hard shooting both of these shots, especially as the night was rolling in, and the fact that the lads couldn’t hold their balance on the wall for very long. Don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t do this if I tried nowadays, but needless to say it was still pretty tough to photograph.
The focus was slightly off on both shots and a little blurred, so I decided to up the contrast a lot on both shots, and convert to black and white. I’ve also sharpened them both to increase the grain in the photos, to add a bit of feel to the shot.
I don’t really like black and white photographs very much because I think that a crap photo can be made a whole lot better with just a simple conversation to black and white – and I think I’d be right in saying this.
Just like these two photos; They are not perfect, but they do capture the moment and the composition is spot on. Because of this, I couldn’t let them go to waste. To make it look like it wasn’t taken with a point-and-shoot camera without any thought, a black and white conversion with high contrast and a lot of grain adds to the atmosphere and feel to the photos. This creates a photograph with meaning, texture and one which captures the moment. A bit deep, I know, but what do you think?
