Although this was almost 2 weeks ago, I’ve only just managed to get all the photos I took up and online after spending a good number of hours processing all the RAW files that I took during the day. Anyway, this was the Castle Combe Rally Day of 2007. Held yearly, it is a great opportunity to get up close and personal to some of the rally cars that made what rallying is all about back in the day, 20 or 30 years ago.
Here’s some of my favourite photos from the day.

A Ford Sierra Cosworth enjoying some sideways drifting fun

Gwyndaf Evans, I think, in his WRC Mitsubishi Lancer rally car

The famous Audi Quattro S1 E2. One of my favourite cars of all time.

An old-school 1990′s Subaru Impreza going very sideways!

Another Audi Quattro short-wheelbase S1

The one everyone was waiting for, the Aston Martin Rally GT

One of many Metro 6R4 Group B rally cars on display

And finally, one of my favourite photos from the day, a classic showing its true colours
For those of you who don’t know, its a Mk2 Ford Escort with some serious sideways action. Awesome.
A brilliant day out, can’t wait ’till next year. Check out the official Rally Day website for details of next years event.
gotta say, if not Gwyndaf, then Baldrick has taken up rallying! Love the Escort shot, used to have one in my misspent youth. You could get it that sideways (on dirt in the middle of nowhere) that you steered by looking out of the side windows, but the thing always felt under control!
Brilliant Craig sounds awesome! I had a small adventure with a Mk2 Escort on a Rally school one-day experience thing at Silverstone a little while ago so I know where you’re coming from! Even the slightest touch on the throttle and it’ll send you sideways – just great!
Thanks for the comment
