The folk from the Portsmouth at Night Flickr group organised another flickr meetup in Old Portsmouth – this time with proper slave-flash lighting set-up, models, the works. It was a great night and it was really the first time I’ve had the chance to use and play with dynamic flash lighting before in a studio-like set-up.
Here’s some of my favorite portraits from the evening that I took
I was surprisingly pleased with the results that I was getting. After a while, myself, Graham, Adam and Sam went for a stroll up to the point of Spice Island in Old Portsmouth for a perfect shot of the Spinnaker Tower lit-up at night. Its been shot a hundred and one times before, but it never fails to impress.
Yet another great, fun evening with a really nice bunch of people. I’m now looking to buy a slave-flash remote trigger for my camera since I felt there was so much more that could be done with the lighting set-up that was in place this evening. Watch this space!

The model shots are ok, but you need to work on your lighting a bit more, add a fill light behind them to bring out highlights on the shoulders etc, it a lil trick to bring the subjects out of the background and make them a little more three dimensional.
